A good weekend

I thought I would share with you some pictures from my sister's wedding over the weekend just as proof that I didn't intentionally skip out on band and also since I currently don't have a Facebook, WGS is pretty much my hub to dump stuff off. It was a great day filled with excitement and strong emotions, but I got to spend it with the people that mean the most to me. Enjoy!

How about "Tim Brewster: Coach of the Year"?

Anyone who doesn't find the Golden Gopher football team's season turnaround quite possibly the most spectacular in the nation as of now deserves to be slapped silly. Accolades go to many from our amazing jucos to defensive coordinator Ted Roof to the dynamic duo Weber-Decker. But one person who definitely deserves the most recognition is Coach Brewster. I feel confident we can put all our eggs in one basket and shoo him in for Big Ten Coach of the Year, but why not give him some national attention? Here's something interesting:

The above charts show a break down of the most & least intimidating [& coolest]alto vets according to the submitted vet profiles. Owen Tucker outshines the vets as the most intimidating (shocker?) while Jesse Ng leads the section as the least intimidating [COOLEST ALTO VET IN THE ENTIRE WORLD!!!]. Just a friendly reminder that I, Jesse Ng, as Webmaster of Wild Gopher Sax, have the power to alter any or all aspects of this web site as I see fit...

Thus Endeth Campeth

Spat Camp was a major success! Who would've thought the entire band would get through 90 pages of drill in just 5 days? A huge accomplishment that just reiterates that the Minnesota Marching Band is the Pride of Minnesota and that we are a big deal to the U of M and the state of Minnesota.

The Altos would like to thank all staff for making rehearsals run smoothly. Without you the band would definitely not be in top-notch order. We would also like to congratulate Dr. Neal on her official debut at the Gopher football season opener as the Associate Director of the Marching Band. We enjoy what you bring and to the excitement and image of the Band and look forward to what you will present us in the days to come. And most of all, a very special 'thanks' goes to Dr. Diem for his undying support and devotion to this organization. It may not be easy for us to truly appreciate the work you do behind the scenes, but whatever credit should come your way, you can alway count on the entire Alto section to stand behind you 100 percent and cheer you on (and give you thirty minutes of our time)! Let us be the first section in the band to return this famous line:

we love you, sir

Looking ahead, regular season rehearsals will start on Tuesday (September 2) from 4:15-6:00 PM to make room for our Fall Semester classes (hiss). Be sure to constantly keep up on your coursework and not fall into the trap where Marching Band becomes your major (unless you're Music Ed). Band may be forever, but too much band could potentially take away from the overall enjoyment.

Again, thanks for a wonderful start to the season. I can only imagine it getting better from here as the season progresses!

And here we go...

The Alto Picnic was a great success and thanks to everyone for bringing the wonderful delicious munchies! It was great getting to know all of the rookies that attended. This season promises to be amazing with the great and exciting attitudes you all brought to the picnic!

Spat Camp starts tomorrow (Tuesday, August 19) for leadership and rookies with vets returning on Thursday. Click here to see a detailed schedule of our camp activities.

Spat Camp is around the corner (quite literally, actually), but before we jump into intense band-mode, let's have some fun first. This upcoming Monday is our annual preseason picnic, which will be held at the same location that it has been held at in the past off the corner of SE 11th Ave and 8th St. Click here to view a map and get directions to the abovementioned location. That was just a soft opening...This is the real deal!!!

Alright, we are alive and kicking (unless there are some glitches that you notice, then you should report it to Jesse). But seriously, it's been a long time coming, but welcome to the revamped Wild Gopher Sax-and we're here to stay (I hope)! Feel free to look around and learn about who we are and what we are all about in our About Us section.

In the coming weeks, expect some amazing things to happen here especially with the addition of our alto bios in the Roster section! Until then, happy browsing!
